Butch,
My comment wasn't a cut on Ted or any of the other "surf" personalities. It's just that when I log on to the surf, I'm always listening for that one song that I'll say WOW that really blew my mind. That way when we come to the grand strand for vaction later this summer, I'll try to request it regularly while I'm there or try to obtain it when I'm there. Actually met Ted and Ray Scott last summer when I stopped by the station for a T-shirt and they were very hospitable to me. |

Joe, you will not hear the music that Ted Bell plays on any "oldies" station, I can assure you. The two hours set aside each day from noon to two is for beach, classics and "oldies". I love beach music as much or more than the next guy/gal, but I do like a little variety in the playing. Keep up the good work, Ted, on 94.9 The Surf! |

Was just wondering, has the surf run out of beach tunes? Was listening Tues from 12:30 on and didn't hear any beach or classic beach tunes. Maybe I'm not a beach music authority, but in my opinion Sweet talkin guy by the Chiffons and Sad Eyes by Robert John don't exactly qualify as carolina beach songs. Just "oldies" I can hear up here in the Philly area. Please more beach music. thanks |

MICHEAL FROM VIRGINIA-
I AGREE. I UNDERSTAND THERE ARE MANY HOURS TO FILL WITH A PLAYLIST. BUT WHEN I AM AT THE COMPUTER I LIKE TO HEAR THE FAMILIAR.
IF IT WERE UP TO ME I WOULD INSTANTLY HEAR "LADY SOUL" AND "HOLD BACK THE NIGHT". |

Been listening today to 94.9 The Surf on the Internet. Some great music, nice to hear 'Come To Me Softly' by Jimmy James & The Vagabonds,i have previously told Jimmy that this track still gets played on the beach music scene.
He is still playing live dates across the UK.and is now fully recovered from a recent hip replacement operation.I am working with him again in September 2009. Keep playing the great music. |

My wife Lynn and I enjoyed meeting Freddie Priest and watchong his daughter Lacie dance at yesterday's shag contest at North Hills in Raleigh. Lacie and Garrett Spencer were easily the best of the competition- much better than the winners of the Pro Division.
I am a loyal internet listener every day here in Raleigh, mainly while at my office in North Hills. The new Liquid Compass signal is very good. It is great to be able to listen to beach and shag music while at work, and to keep current with what is going on at OD.
Thanks for the Koozie Cup Freddis. |

I LOVE BEING ABLE TO GET THIS STATION AT HOME AFTER YEARS OF WAITING TO DRIVE CLOSE ENOUGH TO THE BEACH FOR RECEPTION OF REAL BEACH MUSIC.
I WILL ADMIT THAT SOMETIMES, LISTENING GIVES ME A FEELING OF BEING HOME-SICK FOR A PLACE THAT HAS NEVER BEEN MY RESIDENCE. BUT THEN, HOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS.
CAN ANYONE LET ME KNOW HOW TO GET A MORE EXACT
LIST EVENTS FOR THIS WEEKEND?
THANKS TO EVERYONE AT THE STATION. |

Trying again, so far tunes today are great, please no more michael jackson. Thanks for throwing in Tommy James from time to time, he played regularly at some club in MB (I can not remember) in the late 60's or early 70's and Crystal Blue Persuasion is a Beach song to me. Not Billy Stewart or Willie T, but still brings back memories (what I can remember of them). Keep on shagging! |

AMEN, Barbara!!! I totally agree with you! Not only on the point above, but also the point of loving the 'old' beach music, although I am primarily a fan of the 60s & 70s beach music with some 80s thrown in! I do like a lot of the new stuff played on 94.9 but when I listen to my CDs at home, it is usually the above!

That's too funny about the Mama Drink'in Liquor song. I don't know how in the world that one became so popular. It's probably the worst excuse for a beach song that I've heard in ages. Frankly, I don't even think the beat is that great to dance to. There are so many others that have good beats and some sort of melody. Frankly, I still love the old beach music, even if some of it is too fast to shag to. At least it's good to listen to. That's why I like the Daddy O's, 58 West, and few others on the circuit. |

Rob, since I'm not as savvy as you regarding sound quality, I can't comment on your statement.
Yes you are Barbara,
You can tell a song with fake horns and drums in it. A song that has a bunch of korny lyrics that they keep singing over and over.
Many songs get played just because it has a dance beat but no substance to the rest of it.
Take that Mama drinking liquor song. It went over well in Beach because it had a dance beat and a catchy hook. I have played it around to non Beach groups with not very favorable results.

J.D., looking forward to hearing the new CD when it comes out. I'm sure it will be a quality one.
Rob, since I'm not as savvy as you regarding sound quality, I can't comment on your statement. I do, however, take issue with some of the music being produced that's entitled "beach music". A lot of it just isn't, especially with the country twangs.
Nevertheless, please don't group all new beach sounds together. There is a great song that just came out by the Daddy O's. |
