M and T,
Thanks so much for the compliment! I appreciate all the support. I have found out that children love this song too. I think my 7 year old has taught his classmates the song at school! He sings it all the time. I’ll let you in on a little secret that only my family knows….in the verse “I walked up to him and asked for his name…….he said it could be David, Andrew or T……” My oldest son is Robert Thomas so T was meant for him and Andrew is my youngest. Whenever they hear the song being played on the radio they just have the biggest smiles on their face! I had fun writing this song! Thanks again!! Enjoy your day!

June, I am the one who played the bass and the trumpet with the old Carousels. I haven't decided what my plans are going to be yet with continuing to play or not. I have been assisting my dad with his releases and helping him with his single that he plans on releasing at S.O.S. I have been having alot of calls coming in everyday from different bands who would like to pick me up, but I still don't know what my journey will be. I have plenty of options to choose from, but like everyone has said before it will be very hard to fill my father's shoes. He is working with me on my talents and trying to promote me in different ways. I hope that everyone continues to support him and I will definately keep everyone informed. I hope this helps everyone out, and if anybody else wants him to record somewhere over the rainbow, let me know and I will put their name on the list.
Thanks,
Brian

Thanks Brian for the information about your dad. It is good to know he is doing all right. When someone announces they are leaving a band for health reasons, it concerns the public who have enjoyed listening to that person. I have heard you and your dad, as the Carousels, play several times at the Avista Resort and I was very impressed. You must be David's son who played bass and trumpet. I can see you got a lot of your talents from your dad. I will be at Ducks again this year for the release party and I will be looking forward to seeing and hearing David perform his new single. I also hope you continue playing and pick up where your dad left off.
Please add my name to the list of people who would like to see David Terry record, "Somewhere Over The Rainbow."
Thanks again,
June Porter |

June and Amenda, The answers to your questions that you are asking about regarding my father. After playing for more than 30 years going up and down the road, loading and un-loading equipment, and then performing on stage takes a toll on a persons body. My father has been doing it for over 30 years now and with his retirement from the band he would like to just take a step back and continue releasing songs at S.O.S. but not going on the road like we use to. I truely thank everyone for their concern with him. I can assure you though even though he does have some health issues, I can promise that they are not life threatning and you don't have anything to worry about. Be ready to come to S.O.S. and support him when he releases his new songs and I have heard them already and they are AWESOME!!!! My mother and I are still trying to convince him to record "Somewhere Over The Rainbow"!! I think if we had enough support I bet he would do it, but we are working on it!!! If anyone needs to know anything else they can E-mail him at dterry@ec.rr.com. Again thank you for your concern and your support for my dad, that really means alot! |

June, I too am concerned about David Terry and his health. It must be pretty serious if he had to stop performing with the Carousels. When we saw him this past New Years, it was clear he gave it his all while performing. And I also was totally impressed with his version of, "Somewhere Over The Rainbow." The Band of Oz do a wonderful job as well, but I believe David Terry sings it with, like you said, passion...
My prayers also go out to David and I would like to know about his medical issues. I hope it is nothing to serious...

I read the comment that David Terry wrote about his health and his reasons for leaving the Carousel Band. Does anyone know what is wrong? I have seen the "Old" Carousel Band play several times with David providing most of the lead vocals and I was impressed watching him perform and sing. He always sang with passion and it truly came out when I heard him sing, "Somewhere Over The Rainbow." I pray that he is doing well and does not have a life threathening illness. I for one look forward to hearing David when he releases his new single at the Spring SOS...

Hi everyone.... this is from a listener & thought it was important to share with all of you!
I was informed January of this year that I had prostate cancer. My PSA went up to 4.7 then a biopsy was performed. This test is painless and saves many lives. I had surgery February 22 which they took out my entire prostate. Its been about three weeks now and I'm healing fast. I go back to the doctor April 9th for another PSA test. Every male needs to have these test done to find this cancer early, that's the key. I received the best treatment and the doctor's and hospital staff help with my fears. Please give to the American Cancer Society. It's the only way to beat this and other cancers. Thanks in advance.

I made my pledge as soon as Ted Bell came on the air, in his honor. Great cause and it is a small payback to the 94.9 folks for the great music they supply us during the year. Make that pledge!!! |

Thanks Wendy and Pamela. I'll check out the song, Wendy. I'd love to be able to hear the band. I'm thinking about taking some vacation in August where I'll be in NC and VA. Perhaps I can arrange to make it over there to hear them. I love horns. They're my favorite in the jazz arena. I'll take listen online. |

Barbara,
You are right, we are all here for beach music. And as always "you can't please all the people all the time." If you are ever in eastern NC near Wilmington, there is a place called Frankie's. My husbands band The Four Knights(beach/motown)plays there at least once a month. Go to their website and you can listen to a couple of clippets from them and also view their dates for playing. They have an awesome horn section. Hope you enjoy them, and I hope you get to come to eastern NC soon for the great beach music scene.

Listen guys, I agree that some of the songs leave something to be desired, but there are some others out there (including the latest from the Castaways) where you've got "want to be country singers" not sounding so good. They definitely aren't beach music singers, but who am I to question why their music gets played. Nevertheless, there's no reason to get nasty about it. We all share one thing in common, we like beach music. I'd love to hear the band that plays beach and Motown. Unfortunately, I'm in Georgia and don't have an opportunity get back to the Carolinas often.
I do believe "that lady" was more upset at her name not being known than she was the music. |

Right On Rob... Everyone seemed quick to jump on someone (Joy) who started the truth that the Souls songs were not that good. Thanks for telling it like it is. I too thought "Standing Up In A Hammack" and "She's Yours, She's Mine" was not good enough to make it on anyones chart. Can't believe 94.9 even put it on their Voting List. Now I did like the Carousel's songs, so maybe that will help Tony Baker and the Souls improve any music in the future...

That woman from Goldsboro is right..."In a hammock standing up" is almost as bad as that "your eyes all over me" song that that Wheeler girl tries to sing. |

Being the wife of a musician that has played with Henry Jones, Tony Baker, Rick Dixon, David Terry and many, many others over the past 22 years. I can say without a doubt these men pour their heart and soul into the music they perform and love every minute of it. Unfortunately, not everyone has the pleasure of knowing the private lives of these individuals and the dedication and devotion they give to do this. Many hours goes into practice, travel, setup and play time to give the people a show they will remember. All this said, their families have to be willing to sacrifice of themselves to allow their husbands, fathers and grandfathers a chance to do what they LOVE. Ms. Thomas, I understand your disappointment in the breakup of The Carousel Band. Being a personal friend of Henry Jones and David Terry both, it was not an easy decision to make. But, in this business of music, there are times where timing is everything and you have to take it when you can. That said, please understand that Tony Baker, Henry Jones and Rick Dixon teaming up to bring back the original Carousels is going to take time to get back in the groove again. These are very talented men with alot to offer the Beach music industry. Give them a chance to get used to playing together again and get in the play time they need to bring us the sound we know they can give. They aren't as young as they used to be (sorry guys, but I've known you along time.) As for David Terry and the others, they will be fine. They are all very talented and will make their mark in this industry also. My husband has played in bands for the past 23 years in all areas of music, country, beach, top40,etc. He is know a member of a band that performs a mixture of both beach, and motown. They are GREAT if I do say so myself, but it takes alot of work and time away from their families. BUT, it is what makes them who they are and we love all of them for it. They all continue to be great friends in this industry and never hesitate to help a brother out when in need. From the old Carousel Band to the new/original Carousel band to the new endeavors of David Terry, they will all shine.
Much love,
Pam Keil
wife of a member of
The Four Knights Band |
