At 12:15 p.m. Nov. 11, Sen. Ray Cleary will present a resolution at the Eagle Crest retirement complex on Grissom Parkway in Myrtle Beach, passed by the state Senate to Gerard Tempest honoring him for his service in WW II. A native of Italy, Tempest served in the U.S. Army Intelligence because he was fluent in German and French - which led to unusual assignments after landing in Normandy on D-Day. Having his start as an artist in Myrtle Beach, he went on to be recognized for his work in Europe and the U.S. His paintings hang in permanent collections here and in the Vatican. Murrells Inlet American Legion Post 178 will host a veterans' ceremony at 11 a.m. Nov. 11. The event includes guest speaker Sen. Ray Cleary and members of Rolling Thunder. Donations are appreciated for a post-ceremony picnic. For more information, call 651-8784. |
