The United States Army Corps of Engineers updated the City of North Myrtle Beach on changes in the beach renourishment schedule. As of Friday, August 1, equipment is scheduled to arrive beginning August 4 and the pumping of sand is scheduled to begin August 11. Also beginning August 4, the beach access and parking area at the end of 55th Avenue North in Cherry Grove Beach will be closed so it can be used for construction equipment and materials. The Corps' website (http://www.sac.usace.army.mil/) states beach renourishment in North Myrtle Beach will consist of placing 750,000 cubic yards of sand over 8.6 miles. Beach renourishment will begin on the northern end of Cherry Grove Beach and move southward. As the project begins and progresses, chamber members can get beach renourishment updates on our website, www.NorthMyrtleBeachChamber.com, on the City of North Myrtle Beach's website at www.NMB.us and on cable channel 15 in North Myrtle Beach. Other questions can be directed to the City's Public Information Officer, Nicole Aiello at (843) 280-5612. The North Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce is working closely with the City to keep constant updates to our members regarding the renourishment schedule. |
