Democratic Sand Sculptures

Democratic Sand SculpturesDespite a deluge of rain and wind, Team Sandtastics has pulled it off again!

Finishing touches were taking place on Sunday afternoon, just one day prior to the Democratic Presidential debate scheduled for Monday, January 21 from 8 – 10 PM at the Palace Theatre.

This masterpiece is located in the east parking lot of Broadway at the Beach, directly facing the Palace Theatre.

The images of Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and John Edwards (left to right) smiled out at passers-by in hopeful anticipation of the big event on Monday. In addition, one side featured the likeness of US Congressman James Clyburn, who was very instrumental in securing Myrtle Beach as the debate site, welcoming all to Myrtle Beach.

Please visit our PHOTO GALLERY to capture the scenes.

These sand sculptures, or "Mount Myrtle" as they have been nicknamed, have received national news coverage and have greatly enhanced Myrtle Beach’s reputation for gracious hospitality.

Cooter Douglas

Cooter DouglasCooter Douglas is a funny man.

His dry wit and southern drawl only add to his unique style.

Just ask anyone who saw him at Comedy Cabana, Myrtle Beach’s 5-star comedy club, where he recently won their talent contest.

Cooter has been emceeing events such as the Grand Nationals Dance Contest in Atlanta for years. He had been told many times that he should be doing "stand-up", a term for comedy routines. He was also invited to be part of the entertainment line-up on a cruise organized by Domer Reeves of Reeves Travel and Cruise Center last year. He was such a hit he has been invited back this year. "Bringing Cooter on board was perfect. He just fit like a glove. Everyone loved him, and he brings his own group of friends as well," Domer said in a recent interview.

Republican Sand Sculptures

Sand SculptureWOW!! What a great welcome to Myrtle Beach!

Team Sandtastics has taken 1,000 tons of sand and has created a "Mount Rushmore"

scene of the 6 Republican candidates for President. The candidates will debate Thursday, January 10 at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center on Oak Street. This beautiful sand monument is located directly across the street from the Convention Center. The craftsmen have been working since Monday morning with their goal of completion to be in time for the candidates’ arrival. The scene will be demolished after the debates, and they will do it all over again for the Democrats when they come to debate at The Palace Theatre on January 21.

Please visit our PHOTO GALLERY to see photos of this amazing structure.

Left to right, the candidates are: Fred Thompson, Mitt Romney, Rudy Giuliani, Mike Huckabee, John McCain, and Ron Paul.

Myrtle Beach is rolling out the red carpet with our unique Southern hospitality!

The December Visitor

There is a stranger who visits homes across the globe in December.

He makes us do the unimaginable.

He makes mothers rise at 4 A.M with a cheerful heart to cook for her family brood.

He makes dads stay up until 2 A.M. on Christmas Eve assembling toys for the children.

He makes us decorate with trees, lights, wreaths, ivy, holly, and mistletoe.

He makes families run outside in glee to see what their home looks like after decorating.

He makes everyone want to attend midnight services in a church.

He makes us travel hundreds of miles to be with those we love.

He makes us invite strangers into our homes so they won’t be alone.

He makes us desire to mend broken relationships and forgive those who have hurt us.

He makes us sing hymns our grandparents loved.

He makes us visit our neighbors with an outreached hand for the first time.

He makes us ring doorbells of strangers and sing like we have talent.

He makes us send cards and goody bags to our soldiers.

He makes us participate in Christmas parades, even though our bodies are aching.

He makes us attend Christmas parades.

He makes us read stories from The Bible.

He makes us bow our heads in prayer.

He makes us hum in stores and smile at strangers.

He makes us skip the cocktail party and instead attend our grandchild’s play.

He makes children stand out in the cold resurrecting the nativity scene.

He makes us visit nursing homes where we don’t know anyone personally.

He makes us ring bells outside of stores asking for money.

He makes us hang stockings by the fire.

He makes us drink eggnog.

He makes us leave cookies and milk by the chimney.

He makes us kiss Aunt Helen under the mistletoe.

He makes us believe in flying reindeer.

He makes us have hope for mankind.

He makes us hope…

Who is this stranger that makes us do these weird things in December?

He’s not Santa Claus.

He’s not Kris Kringle.

He’s not Father Christmas.

He is Jesus, the Son of God.

He cracks open our hardened hearts and sends His amazing grace to fill the space.

He makes us believe that miracles are for real.

LET EVERY HEART PREPARE HIM ROOM!

AND HEAVEN AND NATURE SING!

MYRTLE BEACH TO HOST PRESIDENTIAL DEBATES

Myrtle Beach has been selected as a location for both Republican and Democratic Presidential candidate debates! This is quite a coup for the Grand Strand. The events will bring national exposure to our area as well as an estimated economic boon of tens of millions of dollars. There could be no better time, as January has traditionally been considered a very slow month for tourism.
