About the Surf

Find out about 94.9 The Surf, who we are, where we broadcast, what we do!

  • Charities

Charitable institutions help to fill the gap for services rendered to those in need. Whether the emphasis is on women, children, the elderly, the environment, health concerns, the homeless, public education, or animals, these non-profits are hard at work in our community to make a difference. 94.9 the Surf salutes their efforts and commends them for making our world a better place.

  • Morning Blast

Morning BlastMany local listeners set their alarm clocks on Monday – Friday to wake up to the MORNING BLAST (6am – 10am) on 94.9 the Surf. “I wake up with Billy” is an oft-heard comment, referring to Billy Smith who is responsible for shooting everyone out of bed and rousing them to action to face their day. His comedy routines, jingles, trivia contests, and upbeat personality get the day started on a happy note for the many listeners who have come to depend on this time to jump-start their busy schedule. This morning slot is considered prime listening time, as folks prepare for and drive to work or drop their kids off at school. Billy’s motto for his listeners is “Start this day with an attitude of gratitude”. The sponsors and advertisers are grateful, also, for the opportunity to get their message out in such an energized format. Advertising opportunities are available for all 4 hours of broadcast.

  • Beach Music Cafe

Beach Music CafeTed Bell is host of the “ALL REQUEST CLASSIC BEACH MUSIC CAFÉ” heard Monday – Friday from 12 noon – 2pm. As Ted says, “This is the listeners’ show…it is THEIR time to become the Music Director of the station”. Song requests are taken by phone (843-445-9494) or online (studio@949thesurf.com). Requests pour in from all over the world…from Florida, Seattle, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Manhattan, London, Kuwait, Germany, and major military bases scattered throughout the United States. It is this connection to our military forces that warms Ted’s heart. It is also a testament to how widespread our audience has become. This noon - 2pm time is one of the highest density listening slots, as people are on their lunch hour and in their car. It affords advertisers that extra publicity to showcase their business, product, or service.

Ray keeps the listeners informed of nightly offerings of live entertainment by beach music artists .It is also an important time to air news breaks and weather reports as the listeners have perhaps been without benefit of updates from the outside world since their lunch hour. “Weekend” by Wet Willie is the trademark Friday song at 5:00 on Fridays, signaling the end of the traditional work week and the beginning of free time! It is also a peak listening time for advertisers and sponsors to capture this coveted audience.
