Tiger Cubs visit the Surf Two packs of Tiger Cubs from Troop 400 recently visited the studio of 94.9. The boys were fulfilling a requirement to earn their Tiger Cub Badge. I don’t know who enjoyed it more…the boys or the Surf employees!
The troop, sponsored by Ocean Drive Presbyterian Church, was given a tour of the studio by Taryn Langley. She started in the Traffic Department and explained the role that advertising plays at a radio station. Next, the boys entered the Control Room where Ray Scott educated them about the role of radio …that it is not merely for entertaining but also for informing listeners of the news, weather, sports, and community happenings. They listened as Ray explained the Internet and how we have listeners from all over the world. They were shown the equipment room where the transmitters, compressors, processors, and streamers are located. The highlight of the visit culminated in the Production room. After an explanation of this room’s purpose, the boys were given an opportunity to record their own voices. The Cubs entertained the staff by reciting their Promise: “I promise to do my duty to God and my country, to help other people, and to obey the law of the pack.” They left with a wonderful overview of how a radio station is run. One in particular said, “This is what I want to be when I grow up.” Watch out Billy, Ted, and Ray…the next generation is right behind you! |
