Tuesday, March 6 was one exciting day for 94.9 the Surf!

Radiothon at the Surf
Radiothon Tent at the Surf Station
For 13 hours (6am – 7pm) the station held a live radiothon to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Final results are still out, but at last count over $6500 had been pledged.

Citizens of Horry County dropped off checks and cash to several locations…Horry County American Cancer Society, Barefoot Landing, North Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce, and the studio of the Surf. A lot of our Internet listeners called in with a credit card donation, and still others gave through the American Cancer Society link on our homepage.

There are so many people to thank…

MJ Wardle, Communications and Marketing Director, SC American Cancer Society (Greenville, SC)

Mike Moss, Senior Income Manager, SC American Cancer Society (Greenville, SC)

Lisa Hartzog, Regional Development Director, SC American Cancer Society (Columbia, SC)

Jennifer Walters, Myrtle Beach American Cancer Society

Paul Williams, President, North Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce

Those who braved the cold to accept donations at Barefoot Landing and at 94.9 studio

Cancer survivors who shared their stories on the radio, including Jackie Driscoll (All About Travel), Tommy Black (Tommy Black and Blooz), and Larry Chance (the Earls)

Countless and too many to name volunteers

Billy Smith, Ted Bell, and Ray Scott, the Surf’s fabulous broadcast team…(Congratulations to Ted, who collected the most money!!)

Trish Langley-Brown, Sales Director of 94.9 the Surf, who organized the event

MJ Wardle said, “I want to personally thank 94.9 the Surf and the North Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce for partnering with the American Cancer Society for this 13-hour event that raised not only a lot of money for the fight against cancer but also spread a lot of cancer awareness from coast to coast.”

All of us at the Surf want to express our thanks to everyone who reached into their pockets and gave…no matter how large or small. YOU are what made it happen!!
