Ray Scott and Trish Langley on the Surf Patrol Van St. Patrick's Day in North Myrtle Beach
Saturday, March 17…Saint Patrick’s Day began with chilling temperatures and gusty winds. It certainly did not hamper the spirits in North Myrtle Beach! Over 100 parade entrants, floats, cars, and walkers, filled the Lowe’s parking lot at 7am, scurrying to line up in the designated order. Promptly at 9 the procession started down 2nd Avenue to make the turn onto Main Street.
There was green everywhere…green hair, green make-up, green costumes, green beer Families and other observers stood 5 deep on either side of the street with outstretched arms screaming for beads or t-shirts. The new parade ordinance in North Myrtle Beach decreed that there would be nothing thrown while a vehicle is moving, so there were periodic stops to allow for the freebies. Everyone loves a parade! There were decorated floats, marching bands, dignitaries, golf carts, and logo-inscribed businesses everywhere. 94.9 the Surf was right there in the middle of it all…with our golf cart, van, and trailer…blasting our popular beach music. The sun came out, and despite the frigid conditions, the parade was a success. The wearing of the green prevailed another Saint Patrick’s Day! |
