The 2nd Annual Charleston Beach Music & Shag Festival 

 

The 2nd Annual Charleston Beach Music and Shag Festival is slated for August 23 – 26, 2007.Organized by the Beach Music and Shag Preservation Society of South Carolina, Incorporated, the sponsors are JB Pivots Beach Club in Charleston and WVCO/ 94.9 the Surf in North Myrtle Beach.

 

 

This year’s festival is dedicated to the late Bill Pinkney who died on July 4. In his honor, all participating bands will perform a number by the Drifters. In addition, The Original Drifters will perform on Saturday at 3:30, as originally scheduled.

 

Thursday and Friday, all events will take place at JB Pivots Beach Club. The address is 1662 Savannah Highway in Charleston.

 

Saturday and Sunday, festivities will take place at the Charleston Maritime Center located downtown on the Charleston Harbor waterfront. After scheduled performances, everyone’s invited back to JB Pivots for dancing.

 

Scheduled performers include the Brasstyme Band with Rhonda McDaniel, Sea Cruz, Billy Scott and the Prophets, Boys Club and a Babe, Clifford Curry, The Fabulous Shades, Bill Pickney's Original Drifters, The Rickey Godfrey Band, Angel Rissoff, Wallstreet Band, Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs, The Fantastic Shakers, Jim Quick and Coastline Band, The Mighty Mighty Joe Pope Tams, and Craig Woolard Band.

 

94.9 the Surf’s Ray Scott will count down the Top 40 at the festival on Saturday. Popular DJs will spin the tunes between band sets. Free shag lessons will be offered throughout the festival.
