2007 SOS Fall MigrationSOS…’TWAS SOS!! It surely was…Fall Migration 2007 has come and gone. There was constant activity with masses of people everywhere for 10 full days (September 14 – 23) as Society of Stranders (SOS) celebrated its 27th year in Ocean Drive.
Member clubs Fat Harold’s, Ducks and Ducks Too, OD Arcade and Lounge, and OD Beach and Golf Resort were filled to capacity (and then some!) as well as area restaurants, other available dance floors, shops, hotels, and streets. There was entertainment galore, including DJs and live bands, to satisfy everyone’s appetites. Keeping with tradition, there was a lot of new music released, showcased by Ripete/KPH Records. Fun Sunday (with Band of Oz and The Attractions) and Fun Monday (with Jim Quick and Coastline, Craig Woolard Band, and Delbert McClinton) were hugely successful. Individual Shag Club parties were held throughout the 10 days in record numbers. Becky Stowe graced the cover of SOS CAREFREE TIMES for the 20th year. Camp Kemo fundraiser held at Fat Harold’s Beach Club on September 23 netted over $50,000, thanks in large part to the winning bid of $5,000 for Gail Craver’s hand-painted rug and also $28,000 for Bruce Quaintance’s car. North Myrtle Beach Public Safety did an outstanding job of keeping order in the streets…not an easy task with record number of people. Ron Whisenant, President of SOS, was glad the fibulators given to the clubs several years ago were in place, as one very likely saved a life. Ron says he thinks it was the largest SOS ever. He estimates there was close to 15,000 people. “It don’t get any bigger or better than this one!” he quoted. 94.9 the Surf, the Official Radio Station of SOS, was everywhere…on the air, in the air (thanks to Executive Helicopters who took Scott Stanley and Harvey Graham up on Fun Monday for an aerial photo shoot), and on the ground!
