In all actuality, THE FLU IS NO LAUGHING MATTER!!!!

An average of 36,000 people die from the flu in this country each year.

The flu vaccine is one’s best protection from the dreaded influenza.

Although flu season peaks in February, the sooner one receives the flu shot, the better.

The Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta, Georgia recommends that October and November are the best times to get immunized. Protection usually starts several weeks after the injection.

Because the viruses that cause influenza change from year to year, it is recommended that folks get the shot each and every year.

Clinics have opened at many locations, including grocery and drug stores, making it more convenient and cost-effective for residents to get immunized. The Carolinas Center for Medical Excellence, located in Columbia, offers a website  (www.thecarolinascenter.org/fcf) that allows viewers to type in their zip code to see a list of area locations where the shots are offered.
