Vietnam Moving Wall

Vietnam Moving Wall

"IN HONOR OF THE MEN AND WOMEN OF THE ARMED FORCES OF THE UNITED STATES WHO SERVED IN THE VIETNAM WAR. THE NAMES OF THOSE WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES AND OF THOSE WHO REMAIN MISSING ARE INSCRIBED IN THE ORDER THEY WERE TAKEN FROM US."

- Preamble of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial

"THE MOVING WALL" is the half-sized replica of the Washington, DC memorial. The memorial has been traveling the country on tour since 1984. Due to high demand, a second replica was added in 1987. November 1 – 5 the Moving Wall will be at Broadway at the Beach. Sponsored by VFW Post 10804 in Little River, this event offers an opportunity for our residents and visitors to experience an important part of history.

Opening ceremonies are slated for 11:00am and will include military honor guards, a wreath-laying ceremony, guest speakers, and a POW/MIA tribute. Gabbie Rae Trial, a fourth grader at Conway Elementary School, will sing the National Anthem. The display will be open to the public 24 hours a day with volunteers on hand at all times.

Myrtle Beach is home to many war veterans, and this event provides all of us a chance to pay homage to the 58,256 who gave their lives in this conflict. 94.9 the Surf’s own Ted Bell was awarded the prestigious Purple Heart for his service in Vietnam.
