HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO NORTH MYRTLE BEACH!!A 40th birthday is a rite of passage. Folks who turn 40 often see this milestone as the unofficial end of their youth. Others view it as a sign that they have only just begun. It is certainly a day of introspection… Our community will celebrate and recognize a very important 40th birthday this week. The City of North Myrtle Beach will be 40 years old on Wednesday, May 7!
On May 7, 1968, four small beach towns…Windy Hill Beach, Crescent Beach, Ocean Drive Beach, and Cherry Grove Beach… incorporated into one municipal entity…the City of North Myrtle Beach. Old-timers still speak of them separately at times, but they are, for all intents and purposes, one community. On May 7, City Hall (located on 2nd Avenue South) will host an all day affair celebrating the event. There will be guided tours of the municipal complex, local fire stations, Public Safety Building, Support Services, Floyd Community Center, and the Aquatic and Fitness Center, beginning at 9 A.M. and running periodically until 4 P.M., offering citizens and visitors the opportunity to see our government at work. The Aquatics and Fitness Center will waive enrollment fees that day as their way of honoring the birthday. A special ceremony will take place at City Hall at 11 A.M. with past mayors and dignitaries offering remarks on the history and accomplishments of the past four decades. The City of North Myrtle Beach has survived its childhood, adolescence, and young adulthood. As in any life span, mistakes have been made and lessons have been learned. Phenomenal growth has taken place, and it is time to celebrate the many successes of our community! 94.9 the Surf is located in the heart of the City of North Myrtle Beach. We are proud of our city and offer up a huge "HAPPY BIRTHDAY", beach music style of course, to our little area of Paradise! |
