TOP 40 COUNTDOWN94.9 hosts the Beach & Boogie Top 40 Countdown every Saturday from 9am – 12 noon.
Award-winning broadcaster Ray Scott is the host for this LIVE program, either from the studio or out on location.
A weekly session by a select music committee is held to determine the 80 – 100 songs that will be placed on the ballot for the week. In order for a song to be considered, one of the following criteria must be met: the artist, songwriter, producer, or record label must have direct ties to the beach music industry/market. This is not to say that national artists will not be played on the air for listeners’ enjoyment, but only those with a direct connection will be eligible for the ballot. Voters (anyone who has logged in) can cast their ballot online (www.949thesurf.com) from Saturday at 3:00 pm until Thursday at midnight. They MUST vote for 40 songs or their ballot will not be considered. They select their #1 choice, 2nd choice, 3rd choice, etc in order. Only 1 ballot per registered voter will be considered. Votes are tallied on Friday, and Ray announces the new countdown each Saturday. Once a song, which has been voted #5 or higher, has been on the chart for a year, it will automatically be placed in the new “Surf Countdown Hall of Fame”, thus removing it from future ballots and allowing new songs to be considered. This much-anticipated weekly program has a huge listening audience, whether on the radio or online. Although folks have heard these songs played all week, they are curious to see how their favorites placed. This time slot offers a fabulous opportunity for sponsors and advertisers to enjoy maximum exposure.
