Tour Players, After waiting through an hour & 20 minute rain delay, (more like a deluge) and a week of computer issues here is some news & results from last weekends Caravelle Resort Classic at Long Bay Club. The morning got off to a bit of a rough start for some as late arrivals led to adjusting some groups to accommodate everyone’s travel. Thanks to everyone for your cooperation & understanding as I am trying to accommodate each player & their needs. Dark skies loomed as the 1st groups went out and while most were close to finishing the front nine some issues with a group not understanding their position on the course when the horns sounded to stop play. Again because this was not spelled out at the beginning I choose not to penalize that group. We are striving to give all players a Pro Tour experience but this is an Amateur Tour and as such learning experience for many. If our Tour is to continue to grow in numbers we need to continue to accommodate & educate those that may not be as savvy as others. For all future events however some changes will be made to uphold the integrity of the field. More on this will follow early next week. Back to the golf. The players that stayed were treated to great weather for the remainder of the day & for 2 players 3 extra holes were needed to settle the winner of the Jones/Snead flight. See below for playoff information. Scorecard & Results are now available online on the Myrtle Beach Tour Website. Merit points will be updated thought he weekend because of issues with the GCAT website. Thanks for your patience.
Caravelle Resort Classic at Long Bay Club Results Championship/Palmer Flight Champion Dale Porter, Myrtle Beach Tour Member, score of 78 Hogan/Sarazen Flight Champion Steve Pratt, Myrtle Beach Tour Member, score of 80 Jones/Snead Flight Champion Joe Kelly, Myrtle Beach Tour Member, Score of 89, won in playoff over Cordy Worth, Myrtle Beach Tour Member. After the rain delay and 18 holes of golf 2 Tour players needed more holes to determine the winner of the Jones/Snead Flight. Joe Kelly and Cordy Worth started on Hole #10 where both players ended up driving the ball in the left hand side waste area. After Cordy left his second shot short of the green in another waste area, Joe hit long to the back fringe of the green. A tough 3rd shot awaited Cordy and he pulled it off, getting it on the green from the packed down waste/cart path area to a close pin. Joe was unable to get his 3rd close enough and both players missed par putts to tie the hole with bogey 5. On the 498 yard par 5 where both players made great pars after hitting the green in regulation and 2 putting. The playoff headed to hole number 12, a 375 yard par 4 with a long undulating green. Good drives by both players set up very good second shots to the green. Both players reached the front of the green & it became a putting contest. Cordy putted 1st only to come up short by about 4 feet. Joe eyed Cordy’s line and came up 5 feet short, saying his heart was pumping so fast & nerves were in play. Joes par putt was in the hole and after Cordy lipped out it was Trophy & Win for Joe Kelly, Congratulations! Thanks to both players for a fun way to end the day, great competition & spirit! Skins Results Hogan/Sarazen Flight Daryl Ewing of the Raleigh Tour took all the Skins, $180.00 with a birdie on the 123 yard par 3 13th Hole. Congratulations Daryl! Jones/Snead Flight Cordy Worth of the Myrtle Beach Tour didn’t get the Trophy but has $100.00 in his pocket thanks to his birdie on the same lucky number 13th Hole. It was the only birdie in his flight and perhaps the withdraw after the rain delay by 2 guests bettered his chances although Cordy has been playing well as of late and will be in contention in Disney World I am sure. Good Luck Cordy! THANKS TO ALL THAT CAME OUT FOR A GREAT DAY AT LONG BAY CLUB, STAYING THROUGH THE RAIN DELAY AND TO OUR SPONSORS, THE CARVELLE RESORT & 94.9 THE SURF FOR THEIR APPEARANCE, DRY GOLF TOWELLS AND BOTTLED WATER! SEE YOU OUT ON TOUR! Timothy I. Mack Tour Director Myrtle Beach, SC American Amateur Golf Tour Cell# 843-685-4589
