North Myrtle Beach Christmas Parade

Surf Patrol On ParadeThere’s nothing like a parade to lift spirits!

December 9 was one of the coldest days in recorded history in North Myrtle Beach and winds made the 22-degree low seem even more penetrating. However, plans were set for the annual North Myrtle Beach Christmas parade, and “the show must go on” attitude prevailed.

And what a parade it was! 86 entrants braved the weather to the delight of all. There were decorated floats, Greyhound dogs, horses, marching bands, dignitaries, dance groups, golf carts, civic clubs, shag clubs, Santa Claus, and of course 94.9 The Surf!!

The Surf had 84 feet of vehicles, including the golf cart, van, trailer, and limo! While we had participated in many other community parades this season, we wanted to make a real splash for our hometown parade. Donned in Christmas hats, staff and crew threw out tee shirts, bubble gum and candy to the parade observers.

Children squealed with delight, adults smiled, arms waved in greetings…

No, there’s just nothing like a parade! They not only bring communities out to enjoy their neighbors and offer a family tradition, but they also build camaraderie among businesses. Charlene Lynam, newly named Events Coordinator with the North Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce summed it up with, “This parade in particular (referring to the freezing temperature) is a real testament to our community. The turn out was an unexpected mass of smiling faces. People just love living here!”

Move over Macy’s in New York…
