REMEMBERING BILLY SMITH

Tuesday September 7 marks the first year anniversary of Billy’s death.
While there are many fans, friends and family who still mourn his passing, we realize that his life and legacy should be celebrated. There are several sites on our website about Billy for those who would like to take a short trip down memory lane. His obituary and YouTube tribute can be found under BEACH NEWS, then BEACH MUSIC NEWS (scroll down to the Articles section). Also, Billy’s last interview was recorded and can be heard by clicking on PARTY WITH US, then INTERVIEWS. It is the interview with General Johnson from Chairmen Of The Board. Lastly, the interview with Smokey Robinson was done in Billy’s honor. Oh that laugh…that voice…we miss you Billy!

SURF VISITORS

Several members, past and present, of the Swingin’Medallions dropped by the Surf studio recently. The band was in town entertaining folks at Ducks.

NEW FEATURE: “ROOTS OF BEACH MUSIC”

The Surf is excited to announce that beginning on Tuesday August 10 we will be bringing you the first of a fun and educational series of historical moments in Beach Music history!

Produced and narrated by Harry Turner and Dino Thompson, “Roots Of Beach Music” will highlight an artist that is recognized as a pioneer of the music we love and know today as BEACH MUSIC! You’ll hear a little history as well as personal vignettes and then a song by the artist.

“Roots Of Beach Music” will air each Tuesday and Thursday on Ted Bell’s Beach Music Café around 12:30, so be sure to tune in!

These segments are brought to you by the Beach Music Hall of Fame at Coastal Carolina University. You’ll be hearing more about that as time goes on. Dino is President of the Board of Directors, and Harry is Vice President.
